Usambara Mountains: hiking, breathtaking views, fresh air and few other tourists
The Usambara Mountains, which are divided into western and eastern mountains, are located in the north-eastern part of Tanzania, only about 150 kilometers from the northern coastal town of Tanga. The highest peak is at 2,327 meters and parts of the mountains are still covered in rainforest, providing a beautiful landscape for a hike. Along the way you may spot chameleons, impressive eucalyptus trees, or perhaps one of the endemic species of the Usambara Mountains, such as the famous Usambara violet. As the German and later the British colonists liked to settle in the area, there are still remnants from that time to be seen today.
